When I am contacted to provide a home staging consultation to a potential client most of them have already started the process of getting their home ready to make a great first impression on the local Brampton, Caledon or GTA  real estate market.   They have started to  de-clutter and pack up items they won’t need in the next 3 months or so while the house is on the market .  In my initial  consultation I  first  look at the outside of the house and  then make a to-do list for each room of the house  during the 1-2 hours that I am in the home.

1)Curb appeal:  tidy up the front gardens with mulch or weeding depending on the season , make sure the walkways are clean, do the light fixtures need bulbs a repaint or replacement…is the entrance inviting? Does the front entrance mat need replacing?

2) Clean Sweep: clean out the closets….now that the warmer weather has arrived remove winter coats and boots to make your front hall closet look as big as possible, store things in baskets to help minimize clutter.

3) Item overload : pack up small knickknacks that may be cluttering your windowsill, kitchen counters or  other areas in your home. Clutter distracts potential buyers because they are not sure what to focus on…we want your home to shine and be remembered for how light  and spacious it is  not for the items in it!

4)Move in ready: Potential buyers don’t want to see a huge list of to-do’s when they walk in your front door. A fresh coat of paint can lighten your space and make it look fresh and clean. The  past trend of taupes are now giving way to colours with more of a grey undertone in  muted shades. Touch up the trim where needed as well. If you don’t want to paint the whole bedroom and one wall is worse then the others create an accent wall in a complimentary colour.

5)Whistle while you work :Walk around your home and notice the minor repairs that you have probably forgotten even needed doing and get them done!
