I had the pleasure of working with a family in Bloor west Village and recently completed a reno on the main floor of their 1940 two storey house . When I was first contacted by this busy family of 5 the main floor was not working, their was approximately six doors leading into one room or another, no closet and no main floor bathroom. The homeowners didn’t really cook in the kitchen because of the lack of counter space and poor floor plan of the home . There was a stairwell that lead to the basement that made an odd little jog in the cabinetry beside the fridge . The home seemed very dark with all the natural wood trim and outdated lighting plan. The first order of business was to create a kitchen and main floor space that would allow everyone to eat dinner together and open the space bringing in more light and updated amenities. In the new floor plan we created a bright chef’s kitchen, main floor bathroom, central closet and an area to sit and chat as a family. The process began to gut the kitchen from wall to wall! And the results are fantastic! The homeowners have a new found desire to cook in the space and the central island is the favorite gathering spot.
